Deadly Tick Virus Is Spreading to New U.S. Regions

2/25/2023

A rare but sometimes fatal tick borne infection is expanding its range in the U.S., local and federal health officials warn in a report this week. They say that a case of Heartland virus led to a man’s death in 2021. The infection is thought to have been caught in either Virginia or Maryland—a region of the country where the virus hasn’t been spotted in humans until now.
Heartland virus was discovered in 2009 by doctors at the Heartland Regional Medical Center in northwestern Missouri. It’s known to be spread by the Lone Star tick (Amblyomma americanum), which is commonly found throughout the Eastern and Midwestern U.S. Many known cases of Heartland virus have led to hospitalization and death. Around 50 cases have been reported in over a dozen states to date, including Kentucky, Indiana, and as far north as New York.
Thanks in part to climate change, ticks generally are expanding their distribution throughout the U.S., which will make all of the many tick borne diseases, such as Heartland virus, Lyme Disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever likely to increase.
Here at Armor Pest Control we are already getting calls for tick treatments, one poor customer woke up in bed to find six ticks crawling on her bed sheets ( Her dog goes outside, but sleeps with her at night). Call Now 513-503-1483 to get your yard treated for ticks!

Termite Season Is Here! 2023

2/23/2023

In the United States alone, termites cause an estimated $5 billion in damage each year to home and business structures.  This damage is often difficult to detect until it has become severe, as termites typically feed on the inside of wood, leaving a thin layer of paint or other material to hide their activity. This is why it is important to schedule Armor Pest Control to periodically check for termite activity. Call Now 513-503-1483

To control termite infestations, Armor Pest Control technicians often use a variety of methods, including baits, traps, and chemical treatments. However, prevention is often the best approach, and homeowners can take a number of steps to make their properties less attractive to termites, such as keeping firewood and other wooden materials away from the home, maintaining good drainage to prevent moisture buildup, and sealing cracks and gaps in the foundation and walls. Subterranean termites are a destructive pest that can cause significant damage to homes and buildings.  Here are some steps we take when treating subterranean termites:
  1. Identify the problem: Look for signs of termite infestation, such as mud tubes, swarmers (flying termites), damaged wood, and discarded wings. It's important to determine the extent of the infestation before beginning treatment.
  2. Use chemical treatments: Chemical treatments can be very effective in killing termites. The most common types of chemicals used for termite treatment are termiticides. These are usually applied directly into the soil around the foundation of the home, as well as inside walls and in areas where termites are active.
  3. Termite baiting systems: Baiting systems are best used as a preventative measure to protect against future termite infestations. These systems use bait stations that contain wood or other cellulose materials that termites are attracted to. Once termites start feeding on the bait, they carry the bait back to the colony, where it can kill off the entire colony.
  4. Address moisture issues: Subterranean termites are attracted to moisture, so it's important to address any moisture issues in and around your home. This may involve repairing leaky pipes, improving drainage around the foundation, and ensuring that there is proper ventilation in attics and crawl spaces.
  5. Seek professional help: DIY termite treatments are mostly ineffective, it's best to seek the help of a professional pest control company. Armor Pest Control has the experience and knowledge to identify the extent of the infestation and develop a comprehensive treatment plan to eliminate the termites and prevent future infestations. Overall, treating subterranean termites requires a combination of chemical treatments, baiting systems, preventative measures, and addressing moisture issues. With proper treatment and prevention, you can protect your home from the damage caused by these destructive pests.
